Preparing a drop night in Bangkok
On a drop night we hang cover boards along a long table, leave the centre clear, and print edition cards only for the copies that exist. People sit. They pick up one issue. They do not get a queue number.
Thonglor market tables taught Nalinee that a crowd will skip the interiors if the covers are too loud. So the boards show a splash and a quiet interior page together. SV-14’s rain street sits beside the rooftop panel where the blue hold breaks.
Guests who cannot attend still receive the same files on the handoff date. The night is for people who want to feel the paper of the card and ask a curator a question before they leave. Thailand humidity is unkind to cards; we keep a dry box.
If you want a chair rather than a night, say so in the brief. Nights are announced on the drop board when a code is about to close. They are not a substitute for a 75-minute reading session.
